私は毎年夫と家族計画を立てている。本当は今年子どもを産む予定だったが、延期してしまった。私たちが計画を延期した理由は、子どもを所有物として扱ってしまうのではないかという漠然とした不安が私にあったからだ。所有物とは、例えば、子どもがやりたいことや将来の夢があるときに、「私が産んだから」「私が育てたから」といった理由で、子どもの意思を否定して自分の意思を押し付けることなどがある。子どもは親から生まれてきた以上、所有物という側面は逃れられない。しかし、一方で個性や権利を尊重するべき存在であり、そうした矛盾した性質を持った存在である。
私が小学生のころに育てた鮭は、私たちが所有できる食べる物であり、衣服の革である一方で、生き物として個性や権利を尊重する存在でもある。
食べ物としての所有物である側面と、生き物としての権利を尊重する側面を持った鮭は、親の所有物という側面と、個性を尊重する側面を持つ人間の子どもに似ている。本作品は、２つの相反する性質を持つ鮭を通して、同じく相反する性質を持つ子どもの矛盾を理解し、両方の性質を受け入れたうえで、より個性や人格を尊重できないだろうか。
※鮭女房とは山形県、新潟県などに伝わっていた昔話である。内容は諸説あるが、大まかな流れとしては、まず、鮭が人間の女に化けて、若い男の元へいく。そして、女は男にいくらの入ったはらこ汁を毎日御馳走し、いつの間にか二人は結婚する。あるとき、男、もしくは知人が女の料理姿をのぞいてしまい、女が鮭だと知る。そうして正体を知られた女は、逃げていくという流れだ。 本作品は鮭女房を現代版に再解釈した映像作品がメインとなっている。

Statement
I make a family plan with my partner every year. I was planned to have a baby this year, but I postponed it.The reason we postponed the plan was my anxiety that I might treat my child as a property.I don’t want to deny a child’s will and imposing his or her own will on the grounds such as “because I gave birth” or “because I raised”.Since children are born to their parents, the aspect of possession cannot be escaped. However, on the other hand, children should be respected and approved of and right.
A salmon with a food property aspect and a respect for its rights as a living thing similar to a human child with a parental property aspect and an individuality respect aspect.Through salmon with two conflicting qualities, this work was created with the idea of understanding the contradictions of children with the same conflicting qualities, accepting both qualities, and respecting individuality and personality.
※salmon wifeis an old tale that has been told in Yamagata and Niigata prefectures. There are various stories about the content, but the general one is that salmon turns into a human woman and goes to a young man’s house. Then, the woman treats the man with salmon roe soup every day, and the two get married before they know it. At one point, a man or an acquaintance looks into a woman’s cooking and finds out that the woman is a salmon. The woman who is known in this way runs away. This material is mainly a video work that reinterprets the salmon wife into a modern version.
